Gideon’s Bakehouse

What does a little boy, old books and massive cookies have in common? Well, it’s the best bakery backstory you’ve ever heard.

The name written in the back of the 1898 cookbook was Gideon– the margins of the book filled with peculiar little drawings created and doodled by young Gideon. His lifelong goal was to be a baker.

Steve Lewis, the creator of the bakery, knew this little boy would be his inspiration.

Paying tribute to the origins of the name, Gideon’s shelves at Disney Springs are lined with strange works of art, countless aging books, and curious antiquities from the Victorian era. To add to the mysterious aura, Steve’s shoppe in Disney Springs is a vintage bookstore building with a personality all its own.

There appears to be a deep and complicated history of the building. This photo of the previous owner was found in the walls during construction and it seems like he unveils more to Steve and his staff as each week passes. Care to know more? Visit them in Disney Springs and ask them about Mr. Jonathan Lindwurm.

Oh yeah… don’t forget to buy a half-pound cookie, grab your virtual queue for the line and save room for a shareable 3-layer slice of cake. The merch is kinda awesome too-all based on the original artwork of little Gideon. Each character has a story and only comes out once a year to feature their cookie.
